Namobuddha Excursion Departure – Kathmandu

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu by international flight

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. After clearing customs and immigration, an Expedia Holiday Representative will be waiting to welcome you with a sign bearing your name. After introductions, they will escort you to your chosen hotel. Transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu and check-in. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02

In Kathmandu

In the morning, we will visit Patan, the ancient Newar city, where we can enjoy the historic Durbar Square, the Golden Gate, the Taleju Temple and the statue of Yogendra Malla, Krishna Mandir, Sati Temple, Hiranya Varna Mahabiar (the Golden Temple), and Mahabouddha with its ancient carved wooden windows, all while wandering through streets, curio shops, and bazaars. In the afternoon, we will visit Swoyambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Swoyambhunath (UNESCO World Heritage Site) – Swoyambhunath means Self-Existing. It is believed that Swoyambhunath was established more than 2,500 years ago. An inscription dated 460 AD states that its construction was carried out by King Manadeva. By the 13th century, Swoyambhunath had become an important center of Buddhist teaching. It is also known as the Monkey Temple, as many of these sacred animals live in the northwest part of the temple. Swayambhunath occupies a central position; it is among the most important sacred sites of Buddhist pilgrimage. Kathmandu Durbar Square is located in the heart of Kathmandu’s old city. There are around 50 temples in the vicinity. On this tour, we will visit the 17th-century Durbar complex, Hanuman Dhoka, Paravati Temple, the Great Bell and Drum Temple, Bhairav ​​Temple, and Taleju Temple. Surrounding the splendor of the historical monuments, we will be enveloped by the hustle and bustle of the market square. Return to the hotel and the rest of the day is free. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03

Excursion to Namabuddha

The Namobuddha Monastery, nestled in the picturesque hills of Nepal, is a revered Buddhist pilgrimage site and spiritual retreat. Perched atop a scenic hill, the monastery exudes a serene and tranquil atmosphere, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. This sacred place holds significant historical and religious importance, as it is believed to be the site where Lord Buddha, in a previous incarnation, selflessly offered his own flesh to a hungry tigress and her cubs. Devotees and visitors alike are drawn to Namobuddha Monastery to pay homage, meditate, and seek enlightenment amidst ancient relics, intricate artwork, and peaceful prayer halls. The monastery’s tranquil atmosphere and stunning natural beauty make it a haven for spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts alike, providing an opportunity for introspection, reflection, and a deep connection with Buddhist teachings and the essence of inner peace. On the way back, we’ll visit Panauti Village, a charming and historically significant destination near Kathmandu. Steeped in a rich cultural heritage, this ancient Newari town showcases a tapestry of traditional architecture, intricate wood carvings, and beautifully preserved temples. As you wander through its narrow alleyways and winding streets, you’ll find well-preserved medieval houses, ornate pagodas, and courtyards adorned with artistic details. Panauti also holds religious significance, as it is home to numerous temples, including the Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, which dates back to the 13th century. The village is situated at the confluence of two sacred rivers, the Roshi and Punyamati, which enhances its spiritual allure. In addition to its cultural and religious attractions, Panauti offers a glimpse into the daily lives of the locals, with vibrant markets, bustling streets, and warm hospitality. A visit to Panauti Village will transport you on a journey to Nepal’s past; time seems to stand still amidst its timeless beauty and cultural treasures. Night in Kathmandu.

Day 04

In Kathmandu

Bhaktapur is located about 12 km, or about a 30-minute drive, east of Kathmandu. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is located in the center of Bhaktapur. The main sights in Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate, and the statues of kings on stone monoliths. The Golden Gate was erected by King Ranjit Malla as the entrance to the main courtyard of the Palace of Fifty-Five Windows. The Palace of Fifty-Five Windows was built during the reign of King Yakshya Malla in 1427 AD and was remodeled by King Bhupatindra Malla in the 17th century. Bhaktapur Durbar Square (Royal Square) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. In the afternoon, we will visit Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. Pasupatinath Temple, located on the banks of the Baghmati River about 8 km from the city, is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines. It is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu, dating back to 400 AD. The richly ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, or sacred symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from around the world come to pay homage to this temple, also known as the “Temple of the Living,” presided over by the deity Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of a lingam. However, only Hindus are allowed to enter. Boudhanath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is the center of Tibetan culture in Nepal. The stupa, measuring 36 meters in height, is one of the largest in the world. The Boudhanath Stupa was restored by the Licchavi rulers in the 8th century. The mandala design at Boudhanath is a copy of the one at Gyangtse in Tibet. It is said that the stupa entombes the remains of a sage named Kasyap, venerated by both Buddhists and Hindus. Gompa monasteries, souvenir shops, and restaurants surround Boudhanath. Today, Boudhanath bustles with the Tibetan population, engaged in carpet weaving, trade, and prayers at the various monasteries. belonging to different sects of Tibetan Buddhism. Night in Kathmandu.

Day 05

Departure from Kathmandu, on an international flight
