Day 02

In Kathmandu

Full-day tour of Kathmandu. In the morning, we will travel by car to Bhaktapur, a city located 13 km east of the capital at an altitude of 1,400 meters. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. We will visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, situated in the heart of the historic city of Bhaktapur. The main points of interest are the Golden Gate and the statues of kings carved into stone monoliths. The gate was erected by King Ranjit Malla as the entrance to the main courtyard of the Palace of Fifty-Five Windows. This palace was built during the reign of King Yakshya Malla in 1427 AD and later remodeled by King Bhupatindra Malla in the 17th century. Bhaktapur Durbar Square (Royal Square) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. In the afternoon, visit Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. Pashupatinath, located on the banks of the Baghmati River about 8 km from the city, is one of the holiest Hindu shrines. The Pashupatinath Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. Its existence dates back to 400 AD. The richly ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, or sacred symbol, of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to this temple, also known as the ‘Temple of the Living Beings.’ The presiding deity here is Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of the linga. However, only Hindus are allowed to enter. Boudhanath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is the center of Tibetan culture in Nepal. The 36-meter-tall Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest in the world. It was renovated by the Licchavi rulers in the 8th century. The mandala design at Boudhanath is a copy of the one at Gyangtse in Tibet. The stupa is said to enclose the remains of a Kasyap sage, venerated by both Buddhists and Hindus. Gompa monasteries, souvenir shops, and restaurants surround Boudhanath. Today, Boudhanath is bustling with Tibetans engaged in carpet weaving, trade, and prayer in the numerous monasteries belonging to different sects of Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03

Excursion to Namabuddha

In the morning, we will visit Patan, the ancient Newar city, home to the historic Durbar Square, the Golden Gate, the Taleju Temple and the statue of Yogendra Malla, Krishna Mandir, Sati Temple, Hiranya Varna Mahabiar (the Golden Temple), and Mahabouddha, admiring the ancient carved wooden windows through the streets, curio shops, and bazaars. In the afternoon, we will visit Swoyambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Swoyambhunath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) literally means “Self-Existing.” It is believed that Swoyambhunath was established more than 2,500 years ago. An inscription dated 460 AD states that its construction was carried out by King Manadeva. In the 13th century, Swoyambhunath became an important center of Buddhist learning. It is also known as the Monkey Temple because these small sacred animals live in the northwest part of the temple. Swayambhunath occupies a central position; it is probably the most sacred of all Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Kathmandu Durbar Square is located in the heart of Kathmandu’s old city. There are around 50 temples in the vicinity. On this tour, we will visit the 17th-century Durbar complex, Hanuman Dhoka, Paravati Temple, the Great Bell and Drum Temple, Bhairav Temple, and Taleju Temple. Surrounding the splendor of these historical monuments, the hustle and bustle of the market square continues, with people constantly coming and going.
